Watch Out For Wades!Very simple answer: several "value" factors are beginning to come together in the Wade Whimsies universe. One factor is timing: many of these collectibles began showing up in the 1970's and a little earlier, after a good start in the Fifties. This means they are now in the "childhood memory" level of awareness for one generation, giving them strong "nostalgia" points. Another factor is material: they are solid glazed procelain, not composite or cold-cast, and all figurines of real ceramic porcelain are being displaced by the resin and composite collectibles that began appearing in the 1980's. So, strong "material" points. Yet another factor is the rising price of shipping: all miniatures are likely to gain value in the collectibles marketplace compared to similar-but-larger collectibles, so add in the "overhead" factor, there. And another is political or economic psychology: as the world becomes a scarier place, more people find comfort in investing in things they can hold than in investing in financial accounts. This tends to push things like gold jewelry faster than miniature porcelaines, but it still pushes the porcelain! Add a fifth factor: collectors tend to be older folks, and as the "Baby Boomers" enter that demographic, the larger population of educated people going onto smaller retirement incomes means that there will be a tendency to shift value from larger items to smaller ones when decorating an apartment. But the real, basic, unchanging factor: They are sooooooo darn CUTE! Post BelowPost a comment here, and if you have a good Wade link to add, let me know. |
